Normally, this Bernoulli effect uses polystyrene spheres, however with stabilisation, even less regular objects can be held aloft.

The object in the air stream is stabilised by the Bernoulli beer effect (AKA Bernoulli effect).  Faster air has a lower pressure so it will be sucked into the centre stream.
