This red globe is formed by a long exposure of a string of LEDs in a rope in a special mount.

This is how it was done:
Take a decorative LED rope with 240 V driver and flasher (not used here). Attach it to a semicircular sheet of thin ply and attach a mount that allows 2 degrees of freedom.
From this position let it drop down slowly in the dark. and this is what you get.
A 5 second exposure as the lights are lowered gives vertical “longitude lines”.
Similarly swivelling from left to right gives “latitude lines”. Combine the two (with practice) and you get a grid of lines similar to a globe.

This was meant to look like a Death Star but looks more like an Angry Fish.
