Now this is trippy. I knocked this up for my 2014 Open Day. Fluorescein powder dropped on a 3 foot column of water and lit by a 3 W UV light. In slow motion, the green fluorescent liquid forms inverted mushrooms, swirls, sheets and eddies which are constantly moving.

Fluorescent Minerals
This is Andersonite which is fascinating on many levels.
“Continue reading” to find out why and see other minerals that show up under UV as well.

Nuclear Projects To Do
This is a grab bag of ideas for further nuclear projects. These are two tritium phosphor coated tubes that glow in the dark permanently.

Scorpions and Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet becomes visible when it makes things fluoresce.

Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet becomes visible when it makes things fluoresce. Tonic water under ultraviolet (UV) glows blue due to the Quinine content. Fluorescein glows green. “Continue reading” to see the effects of UV and the ways it is created. 10 photos and links. Continue reading
Neon and Fluoro Tubes
Neon and Fluoro Tubes, 2007
This was just another quick demo of a comparison between neon and fluoro tubes for Tesla coils.
Above shows a similar length neon and a fluorescent tube with ends connected. The electrode end has been made identical by using same sized electrodes. One has to bring the neon much closer to fire it. Of course the color is much nicer…
Nitrogen Laser 2
My second (successful) attempt at a transverse excited atmospheric pressure (TEA) nitrogen laser and why it worked.
